আব্বাসীয় খলীফা হারুনুর রশীদ এর শাসন আমলে বাহলুল নামে এক পাগল ছিল।যে অধিকাংশ সময় কবরস্থানে কাটাতো।একদিন কবরস্থানে থাকা অবস্থায় বাদশাহ হারুনুর রশীদ তার পাশ দিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন।
বাদশাহ তাকে ডাক দিলেনঃ বাহলুল! ওহে পাগল! তোমার কি আর জ্ঞান ফিরবে না?
বাহলুল রাজপ্রাসাদের দিকে ইঙ্গিত দিয়ে বললেনঃ আমি জানি এই রঙ্গীলা দালান ক্ষণিকের আবাসস্থল, এবং এটি(কবরস্থান)স্থায়ী নিবাস; এজন্য আমি মরার পূর্বেই এখানে বসবাস শুরু করেছি। অথচ তুই গ্রহণ করেছিস ঐ রঙ্গীনশালাকে আর এই স্থায়ীনিবাসকে(কবর) এড়িয়ে চলছিস!
রাজপ্রসাদ থেকে এখানে আসাকে অপছন্দ করছিস যদিও তুই জানিস এটাই তোর শেষ গন্তব্য। এবার বল, আমাদের মধ্যে কে পাগল? বাহলুলের মুখে এ কথা শোনার পর বাদশাহর অন্তর কেঁপে উঠল, তিনি কেঁদে ফেললেন। তাঁর দাড়ি ভিজে গেল।
তিনি বললেনঃখোদার কসম!তুমিই সত্যবাদী। আমাকে আরও কিছু উপদেশ দাও! বাহলুলঃ তোর উপদেশের জন্য আল্লাহর কিতাবই যথেষ্ট। ওটাকে যথার্থভাবে আকড়ে ধর।বাদশাহঃ তোমার কোন কিছুর অভাব থাকলে আমাকে বল, আমি তা পূরণ করব।
বাহলুলঃ হ্যাঁ, আমার তিনটি অভাব আছে,এগুলো যদি তুই পূরণ করতে পারিস তবে সারা জীবন তোর কৃতজ্ঞতা স্বীকার করব।বাদশাহঃ তুমি নিঃসঙ্কোচে চাইতে পার।বাহলুলঃ মরণের সময় হলে আমার আয়ূ বৃদ্ধি করতে হবে।বাদশাহঃ আমার পক্ষে সম্ভব নয়। বাহলুলঃ আমাকে মৃত্যুর ফেরেশতা থেকে রক্ষা করতে হবে।বাদশাহঃ আমার পক্ষে সম্ভব নয়।বাহলুলঃ আমাকে জান্নাতে স্থান করে দিতে হবে এবং জাহান্নাম থেকে আমাকে দূরে রাখতে হবে।বাদশাহঃ আমার পক্ষে সম্ভব নয়।
বাহলুলঃ তবে জেন রাখ, তুই বাদশাহ নয়, বরং তুই অন্য কারো অধীনস্থ, আমার মতোই কারো গোলাম।অতএব তোর কাছে আমার কোন চাওয়া বা প্রার্থনা নেই। আমি যার গোলাম, আমি সেই মহা পরাক্রমশালী আল্লাহরই মুখাপেক্ষী।
আল্লাহ তালা আমাদেরকে কবরের প্রস্তুতি গ্রহন করার তৌফীক দান করুন।(আমীন)

You dislike coming here from Rajprasad even though you know this is your last destination. Now tell me, which of us is crazy? The king's heart trembled when he heard this on Bahlul's face, he wept. His beard got wet.
He said: By God! You are the truthful. Give me some more advice! Bahlul: The Book of Allah is sufficient for your advice. Hold it right. King: If you lack anything, tell me, I will fill it.
Bahlul: Yes, I have three shortcomings, if you can fill them, I will be grateful to you for the rest of my life. Badshah: You can ask without hesitation. Bahlul: I have to be saved from the angel of death. Badshah: It is not possible for me. Bahlul: I have to be given a place in Paradise and I have to be kept away from Hell. Badshah: It is not possible for me.
Bahlul: But keep Jane, you are not a king, but you are subordinate to someone else, a slave of someone like me. So I have no desire or prayer for you. Whose servant I am, I am dependent on that Almighty God.
